Phoebe Mainland is a consultant anaesthesiologist, a fellow of both Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) & Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists (HKCA).
She has worked in Australia, Hong Kong and UK; was guest faculty in Anaesthesia at Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal; conducted med-evacs for critically ill patients in South East Asia, and has worked as an anaesthesiologist in medical support teams for international military and police engagements in Solomon Islands and East Timor.
Phoebe read for MA (Medical Ethics & Law) from King’s College, London, and has sat on various committees related to these interests including health ethics committees and a medical defence organization advisory committee.
Since 2005 she has been involved in standards organizations nationally (Standards Australia) and internationally (International Organization for Standardization - ISO), developing safety standards for medical equipment.
Phoebe became the liaison for World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WSFA) and ISO in 2012. She continues to hold appointment as Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Chinese University of Hong Kong.
She is a fellow of Australian College of Legal Medicine and a member of the Academy of Experts (UK).
Phoebe is 2017/18 president of the Medico-Legal Society of Victoria. In 2015 she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship for a project related to patient safety. In addition to her VMO appointment at Alfred Phoebe has a private practice in anaesthesia and provides medico-legal opinion related to anaesthesia.
